Suicide Squad will be coming out this fall where some of DC Comics’ most brutal villains are brought together for the first time on the big screen, but it looks like that one of the characters might be getting her own stand alone film (ish!) after this movie. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment is in early development of a Harley Quinn film that would feature Margot Robbie reprising the role of Quinn as well as serving as a producer.
Robbie was also the person that was pushing for this project big time after she got the role of Harley Quinn and they also report that she helped bring the screenwriter (whose name wasn’t revealed, but said to be female!) on to the project. They went on to say that while this won’t be a Harley Quinn solo film per say, it will feature her in the lead as well as several other female DC heroes and villains!
While not 100% confirmed, characters like Batgirl, the Birds of Prey, Poison Ivy, Katana (who will be showing up in Suicide Squad too) and Bumblebee are said to be possibly involved on the project, which makes this film sound like a Birds of Prey vs Gotham Sirens movie.
Official Synopsis For Suicide Squad:
“It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?”
